Before I share more about my experience, here are some hard facts:

The Icelandic Phallological museum is located on Laugavegur 116, Reykjavik. You can come here daily from 10:00-18:00 (6PM). Entry requires 1250 Icelandic kroner, ($10 USD). They do not accept credit cards here, only cash. You can even become a member today!

It was established in 1997, by Sigurður Hjartarson and is now curated by his son, Hjörtur Gísli Sigurðsson. The collection started with a single bull penis, and has grown to include a total of 280 penises. Specimens range from whales to hamsters. Seeing the vas deferens between all of the sizes and shapes and colors gave me a rise of amazement. There is also a human penis as of 2011, with three more on the way promised by future donors, when they don’t need them anymore, of course. The museum itself is quite small, but certainly not tucked away. Don’t judge the museum by its size, because you really do get the whole package.

It is on the corner of Laugavegur, the main street through downtown Reykjavik. It said good morning to me every time I left my hostel and greeted me with a warm good night as I returned to go to sleep.

Well he was whale endowed! This isn’t even the e-schlong-ated form, just flaccid.

This place welcomes ALL ages! An overheard conversation between a man and his five year old:

Dad: “Here is a whale penis.”

Girl: “Is the whale dead?”

Dad: “I think so, or at least he’s swimming around without his penis.”

Me: “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, and I’m dead!”

The museum also includes a collection of hand shafted artwork.
