Okay so there is a story here. I was in a rush to get a money belt for Peru, I found a Macy’s gift card and ordered the only money belt they had available online. I didn’t think it would matter because it was adjustable. The strap was adjustable so it fit fine that way, but because I am thin, the part that holds the passport and money wrapped around enough to make the zipper a nuisance. Struggling to get the money out of it made the idea of having your stuff hidden and easily accessible not possible. I ended up not using it except for when traveling to and from Peru at the airport. The rest of the time I either put the money I kept on my person in an unexpected pocket in one of my shirts or my bra or in someone else’s pocket. They know who they are and I am greatly appreciative for everything! I went to REI a week or so after the trip to get travel supplies (I will discuss what I use in a separate post), and found an array of different money belts. I am now happy with the choice as I was able to try it on and see how it fits and works with me. I highly recommend not underestimated the importance of a good fitting money belt for those who use them or are thinking of using them. It is a great thing to have, but it could be the difference between a convenient thing you don’t really notice until you need to acknowledge its presence and a really annoying and potentially frustrating experience.
